Descript + CapCut + ElevenLabs: A Practical Video Workflow

These tools do not need to touch every video. A useful division of labor is Descript for finding structure through transcript-based editing, CapCut for pacing, captions, and visual finishing, and ElevenLabs only when voiceover or localization is justified.

Workflow map

Step 1: write an evidence script

Label the script as facts, demonstrations, opinion, and call to action. Attach a source to every factual claim and specify the interface that must be recorded for each demonstration. AI can improve expression; it should not invent user results.

Step 2: make the text-based rough cut in Descript

After import, correct speakers, product names, numbers, and negations before deleting text. Do not remove every pause automatically. Natural spacing preserves human cadence and prevents abrupt audio joins.

Descript plans use both media allowance and AI credits. Forecast imported minutes and expensive AI features, not only export resolution.

Step 3: finish visuals and captions in CapCut

Move the approved timeline to CapCut for aspect ratios, B-roll, branded captions, emphasis, and audio levels. Manually inspect names, amounts, URLs, and technical terms. Automated captions often fail on the exact detail that matters most.

CapCut states that pricing varies by region, device, and promotion. Team budgets should use the same device and account context when checking checkout prices.

Step 4: add ElevenLabs only when necessary

Useful cases include multilingual versions, consistent narration, or replacing audio that cannot be re-recorded. Protect source recordings used for your own cloned voice. Obtain explicit authorization before using another person’s voice.

ElevenLabs plans and API use vary by quota, characters, and model. Generate a 30-second sample to approve pronunciation, emotion, and pauses before producing a long track.

Step 5: handle AI disclosure

YouTube requires disclosure for meaningful synthetic or altered content that appears realistic, including making a real person appear to say something they did not say or generating a realistic event that did not happen. Production assistance, captions, minor repair, and some uses of a creator’s own cloned voice are treated differently in the official examples.

Use a simple standard: if realism could cause viewers to misunderstand a person, event, place, or voice, disclose it. Disclosure is context; concealment creates the trust risk.

File and version system

• 01-script: sourced final script.
• 02-rough-cut: Descript project and checked transcript.
• 03-visual: CapCut project and licensed asset list.
• 04-voice: voice versions, consent record, pronunciation sheet.
• 05-master: final video, captions, thumbnail, disclosure record.

Quality control

Watch at 1.5x to inspect pacing, watch muted to inspect captions and visual logic, then listen without video to catch audio jumps. Spot-check five factual claims and confirm commercial rights for music, images, footage, and voices.

Control subscription cost

Give each tool one clear bottleneck. If Descript already handles the approved rough cut and captions, do not move the same job to CapCut merely to complete a fashionable stack. Add a subscription only when delivery speed, quality, or localization reuse improves measurably.
